BluRay 10 - Your Movie Newsletter
Top 10 New Releases on Blu Ray : October 8th, 2009 - Welcome!

This week: Explore the very meaning of human existence through the eyes of Jodie Foster, Carl Sagan, Ken Burns, Mary Shelly and Kurt Cobain. Or maybe not. Feeling a bit less insightful? - A swarm of popular blu-ray winter holiday favorites flew in this week as well. But onward with human existence thing:

Contact [Blu-ray] ~ Jodie Foster, et al. (2009)
Based on Carl Sagan's novel, 'Contact' is surprisingly thoughtful and provocative for a big-budget Hollywood sci fi... a relatively rare piece of studio filmmaking. If you liked '2001' better than say, 'Time Cop', check it out.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein ~ Kenneth Branagh, Robert De Niro, Helena Bonham Carter (2009)
Shelly's original work of fiction doesn't have much in common with the Halloween character. Buy the book. Seriously, it's an amazing story. As for this Oscar nominated 1994 remake - "Let's be honest: this should be titled 'Wretched Excess Frankenstein'. Swooping, wild, bloody, and energetic, this is bad moviemaking from the best, which makes it all the more lovable." --Keith Simanton

Audition: Collector's Edition ~ Ryo Ishibashi, Eihi Shiina, and Tetsu Sawaki (2009)
This one may just be too creepy for even the most detached dead-inside horror fans. But hey, if you're up for it & don't mind staying up for a week or two staring at the ceiling...

Secrets of the Cross [Blu-ray] ~ Colin Tierney (2009)
"Could Mary Magdalene have been the wife of Jesus, and did they have a child? Was her reputation as a prostitute a libel created by the early Church? What were the real circumstances of Jesus' death? Whether you're a believer, or simply someone who's drawn in through exposure to 'The Da Vinci Code', you'll find something fascinating here..."
